The Holiday Guru is always on call to answer your questions.
This week Salzburg, passport issues in America and the chances of a round of golf in Augusta are on the agenda...
Q We'd like to visit Salzburg in Austria. What are the best-value flights from Jersey and where might we stay?
Stuart Shepherd, St Helier, Jersey.
The Guru recommends staying at the Star Inn Hotel in Salzburg (pictured)
A EasyJet flies from Jersey to Southend from £41 return (easyjet.com), while Ryanair has Stansted to Salzburg returns from £30 (ryanair.com). Stay at the Star Inn Hotel in the city centre from £86 B&B (starinnhotels.com). For more tips, see ‘Salzburg for under £100 a Night’ at dailymail.co.uk.
Q When I visited America 15 years ago I was held at passport control as I had mistakenly not returned my ‘departure card’ on a previous visit. They told me this will happen again unless I contact the embassy, but who should I see?
Richard Sobey, Nottingham.
A This is complicated. You will almost certainly no longer have the paper I-94 form to which you refer, which U.S. Customs and Border Protection would ideally like to see by post: Coleman Data Solutions, 3043 Sanitarium Road, Suite 2, Akron, OH 44312, Attn: NIDPS (I-94). For those without the form, photocopies of dated payslips will be considered to prove your UK return. For advice, see help.cbp.gov and put ‘missing I-94 form’ in the search box.
Q I am going to Switzerland, but am unsure what I am allowed in hand luggage. I want to take an electric razor and my hearing aid charger.
Roger Hinton, Southampton.
A Yes, you can take these. If you want more information, search ‘allowed in baggage’ on caa.co.uk for details.
Q We are visiting the Augusta area in the United States soon and would like to know if we can play a round of golf there?
T. Boyle, via email.
A No. Augusta National Golf Club is private outside of the Masters tournament.
